I cooked a picnic ham from my share of the pig.  This ham is very different than commercial  ham. For one, it is not pastel pink. And it does not have that silvery glisten you often see. With no salty after-taste, it is, in the words of my guests, more 'porky', yet definitely cured.

Another week gone with my pork share! With the incredibly lean chops I made Maple Glazed Pork Chops and Bourbon Brined Chops. I  also made Sesame Noodles with Pork and Mou Shu Pork with Cantonese Pancakes.
The Sesame Noodles and Mou Shu are recipes that are very adaptable. Add broccoli, beans, bok choy or whatever you have about to the Sesame Noodles. Back in September I told Fred Monahan at Stone Gardens Farm that I was interested in a pork share. A friend and I had split a share of beef last year-- the difference in taste is amazing. Great fresh things are coming from the garden, sometimes faster than you can actually cook and eat them!

I met a calm peacock at Fat Rooster Farm in South Royalton, VT. I've never met a peacock that was so, well- downright friendly! He strolled up to me, looked at me, and then went on his way. My previous experience with peacocks has been watching them standing behind some kind of fence, running away when a crowd comes close. Not so at Fat Rooster. On Sunday, Fred and Stacia took a group of their CSA members on a tour of the fields and then back to the homestead to see the cows, chickens and turkeys (and nibble on some plums and raspberries as we passed the plum trees and raspberry patch). This is the 3rd year that I've had a share of Stone Gardens Farm in Shelton, and I LOVE it! 

 
Stone Gardens Farm is a family farm, owned and farmed by Fred and Stacia Monahan-- one of the first farms in this area to offer CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares. Kohlrabi is a seriously weird looking plant. When I was in high school I was addicted to reruns of “Lost in Space” (don’t judge me- I did my homework while watching those reruns).
